When Does the H Fixed-lag Smoothing Performance Saturates?

چکیده

A notable difference between the H2 and H smoothing is that the achievable performance in the latter problem might “saturate” as the function of the smoothing lag in the sense that there might exist a finite smoothing lag for which the achievable performance level is the same as for the infinite smoothing lag. In this paper necessary and sufficient conditions under which such a saturation takes place are derived. In particular, it is shown that the H performance saturates only if the H norm of the optimal error system is achieved at the infinite frequency, i.e., if the worst case disturbance is “infinitely fast” and thus in a sense unpredictable. Effects of a Partial Lag on the Achievable Performance of the H∞ Fixed-lag Smoothing

The fixed-lag smoothing problem with a partial lag is the problem in which the presence of the smoothing lag is allowed only in a part of estimation channels. This paper studies the effect of a partial smoothing lag on the achievable H ∞ performance in the continuous-time case. In particular, the limit of the achievable performance is established and the saturation of the achievable performance...

On the H∞ Fixed-lag Smoothing: How to Exploit the Information Preview

The problem of the continuous-time H∞ fixed-lag smoothing over the infinite horizon is studied. The first solution to the problem is derived in terms of one algebraic Riccati equation of the same dimension as in the filtering case and the mechanism by which the performance improvements with respect to the H∞ filtering occur is clarified. It is shown that the H∞ smoother exploits the information...

H∞ Fixed-Lag Smoothing for Descriptor Systems

In this paper, we study the finite horizon H∞ fixed-lag smoothing problem for linear descriptor systems. The key approach applied for deriving the H∞ fixed-lag smoother is the re-organization innovation analysis in Krein space. Under the Krein space, the H∞ fixed-lag smoothing is converted into an H2 estimation problem for the system with current and delayed measurements. By using innovation re...

Achievable H∞ performance in sampled-data smoothing: beyond the ||D̆1||-barrier

The lifting technique is a powerful tool for handling the periodically time-varying nature of sampled-data systems. Yet all known solutions of sampled-data H problems are limited to the case when the feedthrough part of the lifted system, D̆1 : L 2[0, h] 7→ L2[0, h], satisfies ‖D̆1‖ < γ, where γ is the required H performance level. While this condition is always necessary in feedback control, it ...
